CFD Prediction of Wind Loads on FPSO and Shuttle Tankers during Side-by-Side Offloading

This study entailed the estimation of wind loads performed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations for four typical offshore vessels and a Floating Production, Storage, Offloading (FPSO) shuttle tanker in side-by-side configuration on offloading. For all vessels, under heading condition, meshes were used to carry out verification validation (V&V) check numerical uncertainty. The CFD simulation results aerodynamic coefficients compared with tunnel tests from Operability 2 JIP. All show generally good agreement experimental data, overall trend are well captured. In addition, effect gap sizes between FPSO range 4–30 m was examined. On this basis, shielding analyzed according size two ships.
